Fastelavn is just around

the corner!

This year, Fastelavn will take place as part of the Winter Celebration on the grounds at Rideau Hall. During the opening weekend of Winterlude, the Governor General will host the Nordic countries, each showcasing their unique winter traditions, and we will be among them. 

Come and join us on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

Children will once again have the opportunity to take part in the traditional slå katten af tønden, cracking the barrel to release the candy! There will be three barrel sessions, scheduled for 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

Come celebrate Fastelavn together, and enjoy the rest of the wonderful Winter Celebration happening at Rideau Hall.

🚌 Winterlude Shuttle for Rideau Hall

A free Winterlude shuttle bus will run in a loop from downtown Ottawa (Metcalfe & Queen Streets) to Rideau Hall.

It operates every 30 minutes between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., with the last departure from Rideau Hall at 4:30 p.m
